There are also beautiful gardens, natural meadows, orchards and wineries located in the area.

  Luray is nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley among the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nearby is the Shenandoah National Park and the George Washington National Forest which provide over 600,000 acres of outdoor recreational opportunities. You can enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, tubing, canoeing, wildlife viewing and much more. The Luray Caverns, the largest and most popular caverns in the East are a must-see when you visit the area. And of course be sure to drive the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, especially during the fall foliage months.

  Shenandoah National Park is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, just west of Washington D.C. and stretches over 100 miles from its northern entrance at Front Royal to its southern entrance near Waynesboro. The famed Skyline Drive, a 105-mile road that winds along the crest of the mountains through the length of the park provides vistas of the spectacular landscape to the east and west. The park has more than 500 miles of trails for all levels of hikers, including 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Trails may follow a ridge crest, or they may lead to high places with panoramic views or to waterfalls in deep canyons. Other park activities include biking, fishing, horseback riding, nature walks, wildlife viewing, bird watching, stargazing and other outdoor activities. Visitor Centers, exhibits, gift shops, dining, and other facilities are open spring through fall.
