Ruidoso is a resort community nestled high in the mountains of Southern New Mexico. At an elevation of 7,000 feet, this bustling village offers an abundance of things to do and see. Outdoor recreation is part of the over-all appeal of this area known as “Billy the Kid” country. The mountain area is dotted with trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Nearby is the one million acre Lincoln National Forest. For the angler, local streams and lakes are stocked with rainbow trout. Billy the Kid National Scenic Byway, a driving loop that circles the area, allows visitors to enjoy a wide range of mountain scenery, local attractions, historic and artistic venues. Ruidoso is home to one of the finest ski areas in New Mexico. Ski Apache is located in the southernmost part of the Rocky Mountains and has some of the best powder around. Ruidoso Downs features horse racing (May through Labor Day weekend) and there are also several casino gaming venues in the area. Ruidoso offers a variety of dining options from casual and fun to elegant and romantic.
